Lectures summary

Prvo predavanje
Synthesis and modification of pyrazole derivatives as potential bioactive molecules
Sinteza i modifikacija derivata pirazola kao potencijalnih bioaktivnih molekula

Pyrazole compounds are interesting due to their versatility in both biological activity and organic synthesis. There are a number of drugs that contain a pyrazole fragment, such as Rimonabant, Celecoxib or Penthiopyrad. Pyrazole compounds exhibit pharmacological activity in the treatment of malaria, cancer, and various viral or bacterial diseases. Although pyrazole compounds are one of the most studied groups, they remain relevant. In this lecture, will be present new pyrazole systems obtained by applying atom-economical and straightforward synthesis and functionalization methodologies, which could find reliable practical application in various fields of chemistry.

Drugo predavanje
Synthesis and modification of indole scaffolds containing N-heterocycles
Sinteza i modifikacija indolnih skeleta koji sadrže N-heterocikle

This talk will cover a three-part scientific journey from the synthesis and modification of native auxin (indol-3-ylacetic acid) analogues with the aim of applying them as plant hormones to the indole-oxadiazole hybrids and their protective activity against oxidative stress. The experience of international/interdisciplinary collaboration will be presented.

Lecture summary

Detection and Identification of Microplastics and Nanoplastics in Complex Environmental Samples

The degradation of bulk plastics in the environment leads to the release of microplastics that can contaminate water supplies, agricultural fields, and foods we consume. Weathering of a single microplastic particle can yield up to billions of nanoplastics and nanoplastic pollution is expected to be ubiquitous in the environment. Nanoplastics are potentially more hazardous than microplastics because they can cross biological membranes; yet, there is little data on the occurrence, fate and impacts of nanoplastics. A key challenge in understanding the environmental burden of nanoplastics is the detection of such small, carbon-based particles in complex natural matrices such as soils and whole organisms. We have been working on the development of new plastic labeling and imaging techniques for detection of nanoplastics and microplastics in environmental samples. The first approach relies on stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED) to detect labeled nanoplastics in whole organisms or other complex samples. More recent developments circumvent the need to label the plastic particles by implementing a tissue clearing technique or histology technique to image the particles while preserving the structure of the whole organism. This presentation will describe the new methodologies and provide examples of microplastic and nanoplastic detection and localization in representative aquatic and terrestrial organisms.

Lecture summary

The gut microbiome is increasingly recognised as a key player in host health and disease, yet its role in psychiatric and inflammatory conditions remains underexplored. In this talk, I will present recent findings on the microbial signatures and potential mechanisms linking the gut microbiota to anorexia nervosa and inflammatory bowel disease. Drawing on metagenomic and animal studies, I will explore how members of the microbiome may influence disease progression in Anorexia Nervosa. These insights pave the way for novel microbiome-informed interventions and deepen our understanding of host–microbe interactions in complex disorders.

Sažetak predavanja

Clipboard01 copy
